Taller Workshop 05/03/2005

On the fifth of March, Constant gave a workshop on the usage of free software in an artistic context. This took place in the Fundacion Espacio Telefonica, in Buenos Aires, with mostly artists as a public.

We have made a “list” of essentials elements of the workshop.

Distribucion: Una distribución Linux, o distribución GNU/Linux es un
sistema operativo completo, basado en software libre que usa como núcleo o
kernel Linux

LiveCD: Distribucion pensada para los que quieren probar GNU/Linux, pero
no desean reparticionar su disco duro, ni pueden destinar varios cientos
de megabytes para una prueba. Es un sistema que ejecuta GNU/Linux sin
hacer demasiadas preguntas. Ninguna en principio. Que no modifica el disco
duro en una forma difícil de revertir. Que puede iniciarse desde el
CD-ROM, una disketera o incluso desde el modo MS-DOS de Windows. Ofrece
una interfaz gráfica agradable y con programas útiles a disposición.

With windows computer, how to go into the bios
(depending on the operating system, at start up, you press F2, or ctrl alt del, or F11, and there you change the booting order -> you boot from the cd.

Look at the compatability, look at the platform, and try to see how active a programme is (like for example, when did they last post a new version? etc etc)

A multimedia studio
It is optimized to run on slower computers, turning them into a full media stations: the minimum you need is a pentium1 or k5 PC 64Mb RAM and IDE CD-ROM, or a modded XBOX game console
