The founder of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gnu.org\/\">GNU project,<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fsf.org\/\">Free Software Foundation<\/a> and the author of the GNU General Public License (GNU GPL or GPL), the most widely-used free software license, which pioneered the concept of the copyleft, pointed at the danger of software patents and of course the importance of Free Software. <\/p>\n<p>Also present in the corridor: members of the VLC development team demonstrating the cross-platform power of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.videolan.org\/\">VLC mediaplayer<\/a> on a new Intel-Macintosh, running on MacOs. Compared to the inside of a <a href=\"http:\/\/images.digitalmedianet.com\/2004\/Week_20\/mz1g99pd\/story\/g5inside.jpg\">PowerPC  G5,<\/a> the Intel version is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.constantvzw.com\/news_archive\/macintel.JPG\">nearly empty. <\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.constantvzw.com\/news_archive\/vlc.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"vlc.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constantvzw.com\/news_archive\/vlc-thumb.jpg\" width=\"100\" height=\"75\" border=\"0\"><\/a>  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.constantvzw.com\/news_archive\/macintel.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"macintel.JPG\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constantvzw.com\/news_archive\/macintel-thumb.JPG\" width=\"100\" height=\"75\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Will you ever be able to run your favorite Linux distribution on this space-consuming machine you might wonder? People from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mactel-linux.org\/wiki\/Main_Page\">Mactel-project<\/a> have Gentoo Linux running on Apple Intel-machines. The site <a href=\"http:\/\/www.osxbook.com\/book\/bonus\/misc\/knoppix\/\">Osxbook.com<\/a> reports having Knoppix running on a Mac-Intel, as well as Windows XP inside VMware.
